It is said that it wasn’t until a hundred years after the American Revolution that the country’s first golf clubs were founded.
John Reid, a Scotsman who lived in Yonkers, New York, was the first to set up an old-school 3-hole course in 1888. A few years later in 1895, the United States Golf Association (USGA) was formed, with 76 golf clubs created at the time.
The most popular national championships hosted in the country by the USGA are the U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Women’s Open, and U.S. Women’s Open.
For golfers on the lookout for the right season to travel, the best time to visit the USA is April to May and September to October. South Carolina and California serve as the ideal destinations to tee off in the summer.
Winter golf is also popular in the country if you head towards Scottsdale and Florida in mid-December to early February. If you want some of that warm desert climate in June to August, Arizona is your best bet.
